Humber River Clean Up

1-800 RID-OF-IT ‘RIDS’ THE HUMBER RIVER OF JUNK –
TWO TONNES OF GARBAGE GRABBED DURING ANNUAL CLEAN UP

1-800 RID-OF-IT, one of Canada’s leading national rubbish removal companies, is proud to report that this year’s Annual Humber River Clean Up netted two tonnes of trash, a 100% increase over last year’s event.

The annual Humber River Clean Up was created by 1-800 RID-OF-IT president Rick Crawford, a Bloor West resident and keen kayaker. Last year, while kayaking, Crawford saw the mass of accumulated rubbish in the water and decided to take action.

“We want to thank the media for promoting our event, our corporate sponsors and 14 brave volunteers for showing up, working hard and helping us make the Humber River cleaner,” said Rick Crawford, president of 1-800 RID-OF-IT. “This is a great example of how citizens and companies can work together on a specific project and make a big difference locally.”

1-800 RID-OF-IT is already planning a bigger and more ambitious event for next year with a goal of ridding the Humber of four tonnes of garbage.  Mink, beaver, blue heron, fox, deer and white egrets all live in or near the Humber River. The waters and surrounding parkland is a hidden wildlife sanctuary in the midst of our city.
